Welcome to the Penguins class.

Welcome to Penguins class! This page will give you information about PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas of learning that we will focus on as we move into term two 😊. 

Dates:  

• Thursday 19th November: anti-bullying workshops 

• Friday 20th November: Children in Need dress up day; Years 5 and 6 to the library. 

• Monday 23rd November: Year six trip to Harry Potter World 

• Thursday 10th December: Christmas dinner 

• Friday 11th December: Christmas fair 

• Friday 18th December: Year 5 and 6 Christmas party 

In our English and Guided Reading lessons, we will continue to focus on ‘The Queen’s Fool’ written by Ally Sherrick. Children will read the story with intonation, make inferences and discuss their understanding of what is happening in the text.  We will also explore the meaning of words in context, make predictions and summarise the main ideas. We will be writing a setting description about The Field of Cloth of Gold, which was a lavish summit between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France, as well as a non-chronological report showing all we have learned about the Tudors. 

In Maths, we will be working on our multiplication and division skills for the first part of this term, before moving on to fractions in a few weeks time. As always, times tables knowledge will be a huge help to all of our maths learning, so please do encourage your children to keep practicing on TTRS.  

In History, we will still be learning about the Tudors, but moving our focus away from the grand events at the Tudor Court to look at the lives of ordinary people in those times and particularly how Henry VIII’s religious reforms affected the lives of his subjects. The Tudors will also form a key part of our geography learning as we investigate settlement, farming and trade. Please see our overview document for more details about further learning in curriculum subjects. 

In PE on Mondays in Term 2, our focus will be football and on Tuesday mornings we are happy to continue our access to swimming lessons at Station Leisure and Learning Centre.  Please can children arrive at school in their academy PE kit and leave earrings at home on both days. They will need to bring swimming kit with them on Tuesdays, with a costume, towel and goggles. If your child attends an after school sports club, they can also arrive in PE kit on that day.   

For homework, please keep reading every day (we have lots of books in the classroom for you to borrow 😊) and continue practicing your times tables on TTRS. We will also be continuing to set weekly spellings for your child to learn.
