Class Teacher - Mrs A Jarvis.
Welcome to the Penguins class.
Welcome to Penguins class! This page will give you information about PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas of learning that we will focus on during the term. We look forward to welcoming your child into their new year group 😊.
Dates:
-
Tuesday 8th September: Parents welcome meeting at 2:30
-
Tuesday 22nd September: Lincolnshire Showground Construction Day trip for Y6
-
Tuesday 29th September – Hampton Court Palace trip for Y5 and Y6
-
Friday 9th October: Years 5 and 6 to the library.
-
Friday 16th October: Online question and answer session in school with author Ally Sherrick
Our English and Guided Reading focus will include the story ‘The Queen’s Fool’ written by Ally Sherrick. Children will be using inference and deduction to show their understanding of the characters and plot. We will be writing a diary entry based on the prologue to the story and a setting description through a recount of The Field of Cloth of Gold, which was a lavish summit between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France.
In Maths, we will begin by revising and extending our place value knowledge within 1,000,000. We will then focus on the four operations, extending our understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and how to apply these to a variety of real word situations.
In science, we will be covering the electricity unit of associating the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit as well as comparing and giving reasons for variations in how components function.
In History, pupils will explore the key Tudor monarchs and begin the unit enquiry, "How did power shape people's lives in Tudor England, and whose stories are often overlooked?" Children will consider why the Tudor period remains significant today and learning will be linked with our English text. Extended opportunities will be provided through the Hampton Court Palace Trip and author visit. Please see our overview document for more details about further learning in curriculum subjects.
In PE on Mondays in Term 1, our focus will be Tag Rugby and on Tuesday mornings, from 8th September, we are happy to continue our access to swimming lessons at Station Leisure and Learning Centre. Please can children arrive at school in their academy PE kit and leave earrings at home on both days. They will need to bring swimming kit with them on Tuesdays, with a costume, towel and goggles. If your child attends an after-school sports club, they can also arrive in PE kit on that day.
For homework, please keep reading every day (we have lots of books in the classroom for you to borrow 😊) and continue practising your times tables on TTRS. We will also be setting weekly spellings for your child to learn; the initial focus will be on the revision of statutory spelling words from previous year groups.
We are looking forward to a very exciting first term with you all!
Thank you
Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Gilligan
