Welcome to the Dolphins class.

Welcome back to Dolphins class. This page will give you all the information you need, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term. We are thrilled to welcome all pupils back, ready for an exciting term ahead.

Welcome back We hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are ready for an exciting term ahead! This page will give you all the information you need such as PE days, homework and the areas that we will be learning about during the term.

In English and Guided Reading, we will be reading Rose Blanche and The Unicorn and the Lion which are stories set during World War II. We will use drama techniques to explore character relationships, feelings and viewpoints; selecting key spoken language will inform written outcomes. We will be writing a first-person diary entry set during World War II and a formal letter that include the correct features. Y6 English Homework: We will continue to revise and build our grammar knowledge. This website includes videos, quizzes and activities that can help children practise their skills on conjunctions, relative clauses, fronted adverbials and passive verbs. www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn. Children have the Y3/4 and Y5/6 spellings lists to continue learning, alongside the book for letter formation and joining; please ask should you need another copy.

In Daily Maths, we will be revisiting fractions, decimals and percentages as well as calculations that involve the four operations. In Maths, our focus will be: imperial units and metric measures, statistics, perimeter, area and shape. Y6 Maths homework: This website includes videos, quizzes and activities that will help children revisit and refresh their fractions knowledge (www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdwxnb) alongside KS2 Maths - BBC Bitesize for games on factors, prime numbers and multiples and percentages. Times tables are extremely important; please use TTRS and https://urbrainy.com/mtc/test to keep up fluency.

We will continue to link our learning in History with English and Reading. We will use Rose Blanche in History to make observations before making evidence based inferences to answer the enquiry question: How can a story help us understand what life was like for children during the Second World War — and why does this matter for children today?-based inferences

In Art, we will retrieve knowledge from our studies in Term 3 to help us to create a split diorama (a three-dimensional, miniature replica of a scene) which reflects lost woodland. Children will create a ‘thriving’ side using natural found materials (twigs, moss, pebbles) and a contrasting side which symbolises lost woodland due to drought or deforestation. Our enquiry question is: How can art highlight habitat loss and climate change? Please can any shoe boxes be saved and sent into school.

In Science, children will describe the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird, as well as learning about reproduction in some plants and animals. They will work towards answering the enquiry question: What is the life process of woodland plants and animals including reproduction? On Monday 9th March, we look forward to welcoming the Science Boffins back into school for another fabulous workshop!

PE (WWII Dance and indoor fitness and athletics) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays – please send pupils into school wearing their PE kit (dark coloured plain joggers and black jumper/hoody or academy school jumper) and remember to remove earrings before the lesson.

We look forward to a busy term full of fun, creativity and memorable learning experiences together! Best wishes from Mrs Hastings and Mr Hyde
