Class Teacher - Mrs L Hastings

Welcome to the Dolphins class.

Welcome back to Dolphins class. This page will give you all the information you need, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term. We are thrilled to welcome all pupils back, ready for an exciting term ahead.

Welcome back We hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are ready for an exciting term ahead!

In English and Guided Reading, we will be continuing our reading on Rose Blanche which is a story set during World War II. We will use drama techniques to explore character relationships, feelings and viewpoints; selecting key spoken language will inform written outcomes. We will also introduce our new focus book: Grimm Tales where we will compare and contrast original fairy tales.

We will continue to link our learning in History with English and Reading. We will use Rose Blanche in History to make observations before making evidence based inferences to answer the enquiry question: How can a story help us understand what life was like for children during the Second World War — and why does this matter for children today?

In Science, children will describe the differences in the life cycles of an insect and a bird, as well as learning about reproduction in some plants and animals. They will work towards answering the enquiry question: What is the life process of woodland plants and animals including reproduction?

In Art, we will complete our split diorama (a three-dimensional, miniature replica of a scene) which reflects lost woodland. Children will create a ‘thriving’ side using natural found materials (twigs, moss, pebbles) and a contrasting side which symbolises lost woodland due to drought or deforestation. Please can any shoe boxes be saved and sent into school. Following that, we our enquiry questions will be: How can art create change? This will include study on Shepard Fairey and print activism.

In Geography, our enquiry question will be: What Makes a Woodland? This unit of work will develop children’s understanding of physical geography, fieldwork techniques, map skills, and the natural environment through the context of Willingham Woods.

PE (Outdoor athletics and Kwik Cricket) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays – please send pupils into school wearing their PE kit (dark coloured plain joggers and black jumper/hoody or academy school jumper) and remember to remove earrings before the lesson.
