This page will give you all the information you need about what is happening in our class, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term.

We hope you've had a lovely summer and that you're looking forward to joining your new year 4 class in Term 1!  

This term in English and Guided Reading, we will focus on two different texts. The first is ‘Stone age boy’ a wonderful adventure story by Satoshi Kitamura. The second is a non-fiction text ‘Stone, Bronze and Iron Age’ which we will use to create a discussion about whether life improved from the stone age. In Maths, we will be learning place value, and addition and subtraction this term. 

 In RE, our focus will be on Christians, and we will be answering the question: Do people need to go to church to show they are Christians?  We will be learning about ‘Being me in the world’ in PSHE.  In Computing, we will be learning how to use and navigate the parts of the school computer system that will support our learning in key stage two.  Our Spanish focus will be Age, happy birthday and parts of the head for year 4.  We will be focussing on sound in science. We will be using Charanga in Music, we will be completing the 'Mama Mia' unit. In History we will be learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, looking at the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.  

PE days in Term 1 are every Wednesday and Thursday.  Children will be learning to play cricket and enjoying OAA (Outdoor and Adventurous Activities) and team building.  Please can children arrive at school wearing their PE kit (a black jumper or school jumper, academy PE t-shirt or a plain white t-shirt and black leggings/joggers or shorts).  If your child has an after-school club with JB Sports, please can they arrive in PE kit that day. We would also like to remind you that earrings need to be removed on these days please.  Newly pierced ears can be covered with a plaster instead. 

Learning at Home:  

As a school, we are continuing to have a big push on learning our multiplication tables, which will help the children in many aspects of their Maths lessons and to prepare them for the Y4 Multiplication check. It would be a huge help if parents can encourage their children to log onto TT Rock Stars regularly and get those times down! Daily reading at home for pleasure will also significantly benefit your child; this can be any text by different authors, from school, home or the library, as well as newspapers, magazines or any other reading material! Please sign your child reading log every time they read as this will contribute to our new ‘Read to the stars’ reading challenge.
