Welcome to the Pelicans class.

This page will give you all the information you need about what is happening in our class, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 6 in Pelicans class!

We are looking forward to another exciting term, with lots to learn and many exciting opportunities to take part in – especially our exciting trip to Flag Fen on 23rd June!

English - In our English and Guided Reading lessons, we will be focusing on the book ‘The Time Travelling Cat and the Viking Terror’. We will be reading the book together as a class and working on writing our own Viking inspired adventure stories. Our last unit of the term will be looking at poetry, using Anglo-Saxon and Viking inspired poems to inspire our own writing.

Mathematics . In Maths we will be moving onto a unit which builds on our decimal knowledge through looking at money and money related reasoning problems. This will be followed by a unit on Time before we move on to learning about angles and 2D shapes. Our year will be finished off with a unit on statistics.

Science - Our unit this term will be all about bodies. We will learn about what skeletons are and how they work in different creatures. We will also find out all about muscles and what the human body needs to stay alive.

History - Within History this term, we will be finding out all about the Vikings. This links with our previous learning about the Anglo-Saxons as we find out what happened to them when the Vikings arrived and battled them for control of our country. We will find out all about the raid of the monastery at Lindisfarne, which links very well to our RWV learning.

RWV – We will focus on pilgrimage this term, finding out what a pilgrimage is and investigating who might go on one. We will also learn about particular places people might go on pilgrimages, including Jerusalem and Lindisfarne – a great link to our history learning!

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) - Our unit this term is ‘Changing Me’. Within this unit, we will be looking at how we have changed from being born to being children and looking ahead to the changes that will happen as we grow into adults.

Computing – We will continue to look at coding this term and will be learning to use a program called ‘logo’ to input instructions that will draw shapes on the screen.

Music – During our music lessons, we will be looking back at our music learning from the rest of the year and polishing the songs that we have been learning.

Spanish – Pupils will be looking at lots of school related vocabulary such as objects found in classrooms and the names of school subjects, as well as learning to give their opinions about them!

Art – Our art this term will link to our Viking history topic as we work on creating images of Viking longboats. We will learn techniques to make them look really realistic – ready to sail off the page!

Physical Education (PE) – Our swimming sessions have now finished for this school year so we are back to two normal PE sessions a week, which will take place on Tuesdays (Pickleball -  a form of tennis) and Wednesdays (OAA – outdoor and adventurous activities). Children should arrive at school in their PE kit on PE days (black jumper or school jumper, PE t-shirt/white t-shirt, and black leggings, joggers, or shorts). Earrings must be removed for PE although newly pierced ears can be covered with plasters, which should be sent from home please.

Learning at Home - We greatly value your support in helping your child continue their learning beyond the classroom. Daily reading at home makes a wonderful impact on their vocabulary, comprehension, and enjoyment of books. Children should read a variety of texts, and their reading record should be signed each time please. Weekly spellings will continue each Wednesday this term and please do keep encouraging your child to spend time practicing their tables on TTRS. We really do appreciate all of the help and support that you are giving your children with their spelling learning.

As always, please do come and speak to us if there is anything you need to discuss or if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

Miss Cotton, Mrs Carpenter, Mrs Dynan, and the whole year 3 and 4 teaching team.
