Class Teacher - Miss K Richardson

Welcome to the Clownfish class.

This page will give you all the information you need about what is happening in our class, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term.

Dear Clownfish,

Welcome back to a brand-new school year! We are very excited to begin our learning journey together in Clownfish class. This term, our theme is Carnivals, we will explore this through fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and creative curriculum links. We will be reading Jump Up and Charlie’s Magical Carnival to inspire our storytelling and creative writing. We will be continuing to use Drawing Club for our writing this term and are very excited about introducing Curious Quest as we move towards half-term.

We will be sending reading books home on Thursdays. Books will only be changed if they have been signed in the reading diary as having been read at home. This year reading certificates will be given out in assembly when you have read 25 times. There are lots of certificates for you to collect! It is very important to practise reading.

We will be having daily phonics lessons in small groups. These sessions will be focusing on the reading and spelling words. Each week, you will take part in five Storybook lessons and daily Speed Sound sessions.

Our PE days this term are Wednesdays and Fridays. Please come to school dressed in your PE Kit, with earrings either removed or covered with plasters. This term we will be working on ball skills and ball games.

In Maths we will be following the Power Maths scheme, as well as working on number in our Mastering Number lessons. We will be learning about number and place value as well as looking at addition and subtraction.

In science our topic is Animals Including Humans, where we will learn about how animals grow, their basic needs, and how humans stay healthy.

In Geography we will be explore special places linked to carnival traditions around the world. In History we will learn about the history of the carnival, including a local history study to explore how celebrations have evolved in the UK.

Our PSHE unit is Being Me in My World, thinking about belonging, responsibilities, and positive relationships within the school community.

In Design and Technology, we will learn about mechanisms (wheels and axles), designing, making, and evaluating our own carnival floats inspired by special places.

In computing we will focus on digital writing, learning how to create and present ideas using technology, it will be very exciting using the laptops.

Our music lessons will focus on special places through traditional folk songs of the UK, including Cockney songs from London in the 20th century. We will be learning to sing lots of different songs as well as playing a range of tuned and untuned instruments.

Throughout the term, we will having continuous provision opportunities, linked to the learning above to help us explore, practise, and deepen our learning in a playful and purposeful way.

We are looking forward to an exciting and creative term,

Miss Richardson and Mrs McLennan
