Through Geography, children will create a 'Rainforest Explorer Passport' including a world map with rainforest locations marked, climate data, and key facts. Working in groups, children will create a 3D pop-up page or display showing a rainforest layer and its climate. Children will use their knowledge to create a 'Then and Now' information page on Mayan vs. modern rainforest use.

In Maths, we will be revising and extending our knowledge of fractions which will involve: simplifying fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions including solving problems, multiplying and dividing fractions by a whole number as well as finding fractions of amounts involving problem solving. This website includes videos, quizzes and activities that will help children practise their fractions knowledge and skills (www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdwxnb ). We will also be working on imperial and metric measures, choosing the most appropriate metric units of measure things and converting between metric units. For times tables, please use TTRS and https://urbrainy.com/mtc/test .

In History, pupils will delve into learning the chronological context of the Ancient Maya and will compare the major Mayan achievements to those of the Vikings. Also, we will discover the similarities and differences between Mayan and Viking housing, society and food.

In Art, our enquiry question is: How do artists create perspective when drawing and painting? We will be developing our skills to create a one point perspective Christmas card tree design. We will look at images of winter backgrounds to understand how tone adds to perspective. We will explore using Brusho powder, watercolours and how to add shadows to their tree designs.

Through Religion and World Views, this term, the focus religion is Christianity where we will introduce the unit theme and introduce new vocabulary to consider: What does it mean if God is holy and loving?

In Science, we will continue to learn about materials and their properties. Pupils will compare materials by properties such as hardness, solubility, and conductivity, investigate reversible and irreversible changes, and learn separation and filtering techniques. Through practical experiments, they will work in teams to develop skills in fair testing, observation, and drawing conclusions while exploring how materials are used and changed in everyday life.

PE (football) will be on Mondays – please send pupils into school wearing their PE kit (dark coloured plain joggers and black jumper/hoody or academy school jumper) and remember to remove earrings before the lesson. On Tuesdays, Year 5 and 6 will continue their swimming lessons throughout Term 2. After T2, children will have their next swimming lessons in Term 6.

We look forward to a term full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences together!
