Art and Design

At Mablethorpe Primary Academy, we believe that art has the power to inspire, communicate and enrich lives. Through Art and Design, pupils develop creativity, imagination and confidence, whilst learning to appreciate the diverse artistic achievements of people from different cultures, places and periods in history.

We encourage children to experiment, take risks and express their ideas through a range of artistic media. By studying artists, designers and craftspeople, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and vocabulary needed to create, evaluate and improve their own work. Through high-quality art experiences, children learn that creativity can help them understand themselves, their communities and the wider world.

Our Art and Design curriculum is underpinned by our values of Resilience, Aspiration, Kindness, Honesty, Respect and Positivity, helping pupils develop confidence in their abilities and pride in their achievements.

What We Learn

Throughout their time at MPA, pupils learn to:

  • Draw, paint, print, sculpt and create using a variety of materials.
  • Develop techniques in colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
  • Explore the work of significant artists, designers and craftspeople.
  • Evaluate and improve their own work and that of others.
  • Communicate ideas, emotions and experiences through creative expression.
  • Use sketchbooks to experiment, develop ideas and reflect on their learning.

Community

Children explore local, national and global artists and use art to celebrate their community, heritage and environment.

Experiences

Communication

Art provides children with opportunities to communicate ideas, feelings and opinions visually while developing the vocabulary to discuss and evaluate artwork confidently.

Belonging

We celebrate every child's creativity and individuality, ensuring pupils feel valued, respected and proud of their artistic achievements.

Subject Intent Statements:

Art and Design

We aim for our children to know more about art, be inspired to be creative, original and successful with their own art. We want art to be a form of self-expression, when other forms of communication may not come so easily and a means all children can explore the inner world of thoughts and feelings. We want children to observe and interpret their environment, as well as cultures and the wider world.

Art and Design Technology for our children

Art and Design helps me to show how I see the world.
