Computing

At Mablethorpe Primary Academy, we believe that technology plays an important role in our daily lives and future opportunities. Through our computing curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to use technology safely, responsibly and creatively.

We aim to equip children with the digital skills required to thrive in an increasingly technological world whilst ensuring they understand how to keep themselves and others safe online. Online safety is woven throughout our curriculum and is a key priority across the school, enabling pupils to become responsible and informed digital citizens.

Through computing, pupils learn to use technology purposefully, solve problems, think logically, communicate effectively and create digital content. We want every child to leave Mablethorpe Primary Academy with the confidence to embrace future technologies and make positive choices in both the digital and wider world.

Why Computing Matters

Technology is constantly evolving and is a key part of modern life. Our computing curriculum helps pupils to:

  • Understand how technology works.
  • Develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Create and present digital content.
  • Communicate responsibly using technology.
  • Recognise and manage online risks.
  • Become safe, respectful and responsible digital citizens.
  • Prepare for future education, careers and everyday life.

Online Safety

At Mablethorpe Primary Academy, online safety is at the heart of our computing curriculum.

Children learn how to:

  • Stay safe when using the internet.
  • Protect their personal information.
  • Recognise inappropriate or harmful content.
  • Report concerns to a trusted adult.
  • Use social media and online platforms responsibly.
  • Understand cyberbullying and how to respond to it.
  • Identify misinformation and unreliable online content.
  • Develop healthy and balanced online habits.
  • Use technology respectfully and responsibly.

Online safety is taught through computing lessons, assemblies, workshops, themed events such as Safer Internet Day and through our wider Personal Development curriculum.

We work in partnership with families to help children develop the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the online world safely.

Subject Intent Statements:
Computing

At Mablethorpe Primary Academy, our computing curriculum follows the Teach Computing scheme and is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We recognise that computing can help overcome barriers, broaden horizons and provide opportunities beyond our local community. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils develop skills in computer science, information technology and digital literacy whilst fostering creativity, innovation, problem-solving and resilience. Children learn to create digital content, design solutions and communicate effectively using technology. Online safety is a central aspect of learning and, alongside our PSHE curriculum, prepares pupils to become safe, responsible and respectful digital citizens. Our curriculum reflects our values of Honesty, Aspiration, Resilience, Kindness, Respect and Positivity, encouraging pupils to use technology ethically and purposefully. Through adaptive teaching and cross-curricular application, all learners can succeed. By the end of primary school, pupils are prepared for secondary education, future employment and life in a technology-driven society.
