Whales

Class Teacher - Ms K Dixon

Welcome to the Whales class.

Hello and welcome to Year 6. This page will give you all the information you need about what is happening in our class, such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about. We look forward to building on all of your brilliant learning as we move into term 4!

In history, we will continue our focus on the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings and the conflict between them, with a focus on how what they did that affects our lives today. Our English has a traditional tales focus, looking at the story ‘Firebird’ and a Phillip Pullman adaptation of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Our geography lessons will also link to our English as we develop our mapping skill by creating fantasy maps. In science, we will be continuing our work on properties of materials. Please see our overview document for more details about what we will be learning in all of our curriculum subjects.

This year’s careers week begins on Monday 4th March and we look forward to meeting visitors with a range of exciting careers and discovering more about what they do and how they got to their positions.

The week starting from Monday 11th March we will be participating in National Science week with this year’s theme being time. We have lots of fantastic activities and lessons planned which you will be informed about at the beginning of Term 4.

PE will continue to take place on Monday and Tuesdays for Dolphins class and Wednesday and Thursdays for Whales. Please come to school in your PE kit and leave earrings at home on both of those days.

Homework will continue to be set on My Maths. A new task will be set every Sunday evening and needs to be completed by the following Sunday. Please keep reading every day to earn your reading certificates (we have lots of books in the classroom for you to take home!) and practicing times tables to earn Prove-it awards. We still have access to TT rock stars to help you practice these. Also, please use the multiplication game – Hit the button! This programme helps with division facts as well as times tables at speed.

If you need reminders of any of your login details, please speak to Miss Nichols.

Your children have worked incredibly hard this term and we thank you for your continued support.

Miss Nichols, Miss Dixon and Mrs Carpenter wish you all an enjoyable half term break with your families.
