Environment and Sustainability
Subject Coordinator - Mrs Levitt

Welcome to the Environment & Sustainability subject page.
Our intent at Mablethorpe Primary Academy, is for children to learn about how as humans, our past and current actions have a lasting impact upon the world around us. We want children to recognise the impact they can have to saving the environment, habitats, living things and more, in the future. Each year group will learn about their responsibility to care and make reasonable changes to their lifestyle to become sustainable. Children will be encouraged to know their voice has an impact and take action within the community to share their knowledge and passion of sustainable living.
There will be opportunities to vote for whole school plans through our Eco Warriors group. Every class is allocated an Eco Warrior to lead on various different ideas linked to our climate action plan. Children will also work with local councillors to have a voice in how we can improve sustainability in our local area.
The children at Mablethorpe regularly take part in local beach cleans and educate the community through newsletters and articles in the local newsletters which are published.
Through our careers programme at MPA, we show children careers linked to sustainability and how this influences the workplace.
Please have a regularly look at our Facebook page and twitter and see what we have been out and about doing.
Why do we have Eco Warriors?
Being an Eco Warrior is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to get more involved in the way our school is run and help us to be more environmentally friendly. It provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Eco Warriors take on the responsibility of expressing their own views, but also the views of their peers as well as passing on information from eco meetings. As an Eco Warrior. pupils have the opportunity to develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation by meeting every half-term to discuss the issues in school.
Who can be an Eco Warrior?
Any child at Mablethorpe Primary Academy can become an Eco Warrior. In September and February, pupils from each class across the school are invited to fill in an application form and make an Eco promise to their class. The class will vote for the promise which they feel will make the biggest difference. We now have 9 Eco Warriors from year 1 - 6.
What do our Eco Warriors do?
Our Eco Warriors help to care for our school environment: they help others to follow our eco-code, monitor our energy use in the school and encourage teachers and children to recycle. Eco Warriors will take part in discussions and votes and feedback any relevant information to their class and our Principal Ms Hodgson. Members will meet regularly with Mrs Levitt to discuss their ideas.
