Welcome to the Penguins class.
Welcome back to Penguins class. This page will give you all the information you need such as PE days, homework, trips, events and the areas that we will be learning about during the term. We are thrilled to welcome all pupils back, ready for an exciting term ahead.
Welcome back We hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are ready for an exciting term ahead! This page will give you all the information you need such as PE days, homework and the areas that we will be learning about during the term.
Library visits have been organised for Y5 and Y6 on the 15th January.
In English and Guided Reading, we will continue reading Journey to the Sea which will help us to discover more about the wondrous Amazon Rainforest. We will be reading various non-fiction texts and using websites to research and write an explanation text to explain why the Amazon rainforest is so crucial. As well as this, we will write a non-chronological report about the Mayan Civilisation.
In Maths, we will be working on multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. We will continue to revise and revisit fractions and the four operations through Daily Maths each morning as soon as the children arrive. For times tables, please use TTRS and https://urbrainy.com/mtc/test .
We will continue to link our learning in History, Geography and Art through learning about the Mayan Civilisation. In Geography, children will explore deforestation and its causes; also children will find out how rainforest destruction contributes to climate change. In History, pupils will continue to compare the major Mayan achievements to those of the Vikings. Also, they will discover the similarities and differences between Mayan and Viking housing, society and food and will create their own boardgame, in groups, to show their understanding. In Art, our enquiry question is: How do masks connect to stories and emotions? Children will consider different card construction techniques and how they use them to make their Mayan mask.
In Science, we will study forces. Through practical experiments, they will work in teams to develop skills in fair testing, observation, and drawing conclusions to answer these questions: What is gravity? What are the effects of air resistance? What are the effects of friction? What is water resistance?
PE (gymnastics and indoor fitness and athletics) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays – please send pupils into school wearing their PE kit (dark coloured plain joggers and black jumper/hoody or academy school jumper) and remember to remove earrings before the lesson.
We look forward to a term full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences together!
Best wishes
Mrs Sanghvi
